I stumbled upon these paw print and bone shaped silicone molds and immediately started brainstorming all the adorable things I could make with them. These healthy treats come together quickly and my dogs love them!
Check out the molds I used here. You can definitely make this recipe with ice cube trays or any mold, I just love how they look as little bones and paw prints!
With only two ingredients, these treats are a great choice for dogs with allergies or sensitive stomachs. They are made using only carrots and bone broth. While most people know that carrots are healthy and a good source of vitamins and fiber, many people do not realize that bone broth has so many health benefits for their dog. Bone broth is great for joint health because it contains glucosamine, chondroitin and hyaluronic acid. These are proven to decrease inflammation and joint pain. Bone broth is high in collagen which helps with a healthy skin and coat. It also contains high amounts of amino acids, like glycine, that can help support the liver by removing toxins that build up in the dog’s body. It is best to choose a bone broth that is specifically made for dogs, as the ones in the grocery store for human consumption often have higher sodium levels. You can find bone broth in powder form, that has a longer shelf life, like my favorite from Native Pet, or in a liquid. If your dog has any health concerns, it is best to consult their veterinarian before adding anything new to their diet.
To make these treats, simply add the carrots and broth to the blender and blend until smooth. You can use whole carrots, just be sure to peel and chop them first, or for a shortcut, use baby carrots like I did that are ready to drop in the blender. Next, spoon the mixture into your molds and freeze overnight or for at least 4 hours. Pro tip: place the silicone molds on a cooking sheet before filling them to make transporting them and storing in the freezer mess free! Once frozen solid, pop out of the molds and watch your dog enjoy! Be sure to store in a freezer safe bag or container in the freezer. These can be a bit messy if your dog takes their time enjoying them, so they are best as an outside treat!
No blender? No problem! Dogs also love carrots soaked in broth and then frozen as a healthy treat! Simply soak carrots in bone broth for at least 4 hours and then freeze for a quick treat! No molds or blender required!
Not only are these treats full of health benefits, but they are also a great way to cool down on a hot summer day!
